Willie Walsh has formally taken on the function of director basic of the Worldwide Air Transport Affiliation.
He succeeds Alexandre de Juniac.

Walsh retired from the IAG in September after serving as its chief govt since its inception in 2011.
Previous to that he was chief govt of British Airways (2005-2011) and chief govt of Aer Lingus (2001-2005)
He started his profession in aviation at Aer Lingus in 1979 as a cadet pilot.
Walsh is deeply aware of IATA, having served on the IATA board of governors for nearly 13 years between 2005 to 2018, together with serving as chair (2016-2017).
He’ll work from the affiliation’s govt workplace in Geneva, Switzerland.
